DEPARTURE

From San Quirico D’Orcia

ARRIVAL
 Acquapendente

TOTAL LENGTH

approx. 65 km

San Quirico d’Orcia is the starting point of a demanding stage of 32.7 km (night departure), with climbs and descents along barren hills. We reach the small fortified village of Vignoni, with a breath-taking view of the Val d’Orcia and descend to Bagno Vignoni, famous for its monumental thermal pool. A long up and down stretch through the valleys of the Orcia and Paglia rivers leads us to the ancient hospital Le Briccole. From here begins a hard climb towards the stopping point in Radicofani, located 790 m above sea level. From Radicofani, another challenging stage of 31.8 km. The walk begins with an 8 km descent along the ridge, offering a view of the valleys below, which stretch towards Lazio. All around us, we can see hills as far as the eye can see and Mount Amiata, behind the Fortress of Radicofani. Once in Ponte a Rigo, we walk a few more kilometres before entering Lazio, and then along a dirt road with views of the Paglia river valley as far as Proceno. We descend to Ponte Gregoriano, before facing the last steep climb to the Porta della Ripa, the gateway to the Town of Acquapendente, with the finish line of the Ultramarathon in the Piazza del Comune.
