The Green Jerusalem
Acquapendente is not just any stop on the ancient Via Francigena, but a place of devotion, a spiritual destination. In the Romanesque crypt of the Cathedral there is the Sacellum of the Holy Sepulcher, which has preserved the relics of stones stained with the blood of Christ since the early Middle Ages. It is said that this ancient building reproduces the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem, in which Jesus was deposed before the Resurrection.
Acquapendente is also a place of enchanted forests, clear waters that flow, other routes to be traveled to the discovery of a rich biodiversity and surprising landscapes.
This is why it is Green Jerusalem: a territory of the soul, an inner journey, a place to meet, a regenerating pause along the path of life.
Acquapendente hides a magical place where nature and history convey deep sensations. The Bosco del Sasseto, a forest that for centuries has been home to secular trees with twisted branches and evocative forms of trunks. But also the Natural Reserve of Monte Rufeno with its three thousand hectares of forest is a true spectacle of nature.
